During my tenure as a board member of AIGA Hampton Roads, a volunteer organization for professional designers, I was entrusted with the task of designing an event poster for an on going series.
The challenge involved emulating the illustrative style of a previous designer to maintain a unified approach while infusing the poster with my own stylistic variations.
Utilizing Adobe Illustrator for its resolution-independent capabilities in handling vector graphics, I embarked on a process that began with sketching out the compositional elements and foundations for the vector illustration. The goal was to seamlessly integrate my creative nuances with the existing design, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing promotional piece.
The design process involved a delicate balance of honoring the established visual identity and introducing fresh perspectives. The resulting poster, a blend of the familiar and the novel, aimed to capture the essence of the ongoing event series and encourage audience participation. By incorporating thoughtful design choices and leveraging the versatility of vector graphics, the poster became a visually striking representation of the dynamic and diverse nature of the design community in Hampton Roads.
